Costa Rica - Part 1

I have been working on the post for the last 2 days and am very frustrated with having to reformat it constantly, so although it is not complete I am posting it now anyway! I had planned to make this post days 1-4 but this is only days 3 & 4. We had a wonderful time in Costa Rica. Our condo was 1 block from the beach and we had a private pool for the 8 condos in the complex. Katie and Liam could have lived in the pool and at the beach. Our first few days we dhe idn't have a car so this was how we spent our time. Coco is an interesting little place, very "touristy", lots of contrast between the poor "locals" and the tourism industry accomodations. Cleanliness in public was certainly lacking - the beach was full of dogs roaming and doing their business at will and garbage disposal services were certainly not what we were used to (by the end of the week we were walking home from town on the beach, in the dark, to avoid the smells along the road from the garbage piled up there). Although I expected these things as CR is a third world country, it was shocking. So were the tin home accomodations, right next to the expensive tourist accomodations - definately a place of paradoxes, but very beautiful in its own right.

Sunset on the beach in Playas del Coco

The sun set super fast - about 2.5 minutes from being even with the horizon to being completely set.

Liam has serious texture issues and has never eaten watermelon before, always spits it out. I guess the heat and lack of choice made him break down and eat this piece.

Dolphins

Liam loved the straw hats

Katie snorkelling - the mask and snorkel gave her lots of confidence

Liam loved the water

Monkeys! These guys lived in the trees along our path to the beach.
