Well it has been a busy few weeks for Liam. August has marked his being 6 months old & many milestones.
We began his vaccination series this month - something we have struggled with how to do, what vaccinations to give. After a great deal of research on my part we decided to start with the vaccinations that protect against menningitis. We will continue to evaluate as we go. He did well, big sister Katie went first and was very brave. He weighed in at 17lbs 10oz and 26 3/4 in long - 2 lbs bigger than Katie at 6 months & 1/2 in longer!
He is now sitting on his own, he's been trying for some time but finally managed to sit long enough for me to get the camera and take pictures. He struggles on the hardwood as it is slippery but does well on the bed, carpet, grass, etc. The photos of him sitting are in the tub, he used the side a prop at first but late moved away from it. He has gracuated to the big tub as he enjoyed grabbing the sides in order to stand when I lowered him into the "spa bebe" - then would proceed to pee into the water whilst standing up! A man already. Granted I know he pees in his bath water but watching him do it and then bathing him just seemed wrong.
When we returned from vacation we started solids - it was not a love affair from the start. However he warmed up and now can't wait for meal time! He is eating twice a day and has a growing repetoir of food to choose from - rice & oat cereals, carrots, apple sauce and yogart. We stalled out there as we went camping - but tomorrow we are on to peas and then blueberries. He now tries to grab the food and feed himself - especially yogart. I have to say on the diaper changing end of things I wish he hadn't entered this stage - breastmilk poop is much nicer to deal with! Katie being her so very helpful self is enjoying helping to feed Liam. I have a taken a video and will post to the blog over the next couple days.
On a very exciting note - Liam's birth story will be published in Birthing Magazine (a local Calgary magazine) Fall 2009 issue, on stands Sept 15! I am so excited to see it, there should be a link I can send when it comes out for those who wish to see it online. If you are in town pick up a copy at a local midwifery clinic, the university or other venues.
For all purposes our summer holidays have come to a close as Bryan is back to work on Tuesday, but we have thoroughly enjoyed them. I have a few families to journey with in the fall as they bring their babies into the world, something I have not done since I was pregnanct with Gabbi so I am excited for August!
